Peter Barry Short Story Competition Submission Guidelines

  1. The competition is open to all aged 18 or over, regardless of nationality or country of residence.
  2. Entries must be in English.
  3. Entries must be entirely your own work and never previously published or broadcast, online or offline.
  4. One entry per person only. Subsequent entries, including revisions, will be omitted from the competition and will not be read.
  5. Entries must be submitted in Microsoft Word or RTF (.rtf) format and emailed as an attachment to movingstories@peterbarry.co.uk with a cover email providing your contact details.
  6. No contact details must be written anywhere on the story. Entries will be numbered and cross-referenced with your contact details. After the anonymous reading and selections, your name and details will be retrieved if your entry has been successful.
  7. Word limit is 2,000.
  8. Entries must – directly or indirectly – reflect the theme ‘moving home’.
  9. The closing date for entries is midnight on Monday, 12th December 2011. Entries will not be accepted after that date.
  10. Employees of Peter Barry and their families are excluded from entering.
  11. We will not enter into any correspondence about entries or results or cannot provide any feedback on individual entries.
  12. We will reduce the entries to a short list of 12 from which the winner will be chosen anonymously by this year’s judge Anne Aylor. The Judge’s decision is final.
  13. The winner, runners-up and remaining shortlisted entries will be announced online and by email to the writers concerned.
  14. The prizes are: 1st place: £750  2nd place: 2 x £125 (two runners-up)
  15. The winner, 2 runners up and 9 remaining shortlisted entries will be published on the Peter Barry website. By submitting an entry you grant Peter Barry the right to publish your story on www.peterbarry.co.uk.
  16. Worldwide copyright on each entry remains with its author.
