Peter Barry Surveyors have been providing residential surveying services to the residents of Stratford since 2007. Our experienced team of surveyors are very familiar with the properties in the area and are therefore ideally placed to provide advice if you’re thinking of buying in Stratford. We offer both Level 2 and 3 RICS Survey Reports so please call us to discuss which would best suit your needs.
We have a dedicated Party Walls team to provide advice if you are planning to undertake works to your Stratford property or have been notified of works by a neighbour. We can assist with serving party wall notices, drawing up awards or just preparing a schedule of condition.
Earlier in the year, one of our senior surveyors, Justin Burns, and his assistant Katie Steff were appointed by the adjoining owner on a party wall matter in the Plaistow area. The notifiable works included a loft conversion and single storey infill extension. Due to the scope of the works, Katie undertook a thorough inspection on the adjoining owner’s property in order to record a detailed schedule of condition which forms part of the party wall award.
Following the inspection, the draft award was sent back and forth from the building owner’s surveyor and Justin, ensuring that sufficient safeguarding clauses were inserted to protect the adjoining owner’s property throughout the works. Katie recently re-visited for the final inspection and no damage had occurred.
The adjoining owner commented that – “Katie Steff at Peter Barry is a credit to the company. She was efficient, helpful and friendly. Would recommend Peter Barry to my family and friends.”
One of our Directors, Matthew Price, acted as the adjoining owner’s surveyor on a project to the west of Stratford Park where notice had been served for works including a rear extension.
The adjoining owner received the notice and approached Peter Barry for advice as he was concerned that the neighbours were intending to enclose upon a party wall which formed the outer face of his own extension and which he had paid to construct.
Matthew advised that, as part of the adjoining owners’ rights under the Party Wall Act, he was entitled to receive a payment for the neighbour enclosing upon the party structure as compensation.
Matthew went on to agree the enclosure fee with the neighbours’ surveyor which was included in the party wall award served on both owners and which was subsequently paid.
Our appointing owner went on to leave us a positive review online, ”[Peter Barry] were very helpful from the start and talked me through the process, keeping me informed about the progress. A great team that provide a fantastic service! Thanks very much.”

Stratford is perhaps best known these days as the location of the vast shopping centre known as Westfield. Opened in September 2011, it covers an area of just under 2 million square feet and includes anchor stores for some of the country’s largest retailers as well as a cinema and several restaurants.
Development in the area continues apace with the ‘MSG Sphere’ having recently been given planning approval. The Sphere is a high tech 3,000 seat music and entertainment venue which promises ‘targeted, spatialized sound that is consistent in volume and quality across all seats’. We look forward to seeing the Beatles avatars perform there in 2030.
As you would expect, the area’s transport links are superior having been upgraded in line with the development around the 2012 Olympics. The multi-level station is one of the busiest in the country servicing the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and London Overground as well as a National Rail station which connects with Liverpool Street.
