There’s no substitute for the advice that can be provided by an experienced Chartered Surveyor when it comes to buying a property.
Our team of surveyors are on hand to provide whichever type of survey best suits your needs, whether that be a mid-range Level 2 Survey or a Level 3 which not only highlights all significant and costly defects but goes on to provide advice on repair methods and the future maintenance of your Walthamstow property. Additional services can be included such as a valuation, a reinstatement cost assessment, repair costings or a feasibility report if you are planning to extend.
Below you will find links to the hundreds of positive reviews we’ve received from buyers of properties in and around Walthamstow and, for additional peace of mind, the company is regulated by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Our senior surveyor, Shaun Blake, recently undertook a second survey for a returning client whose previous purchase had fallen through. This property was a two storey middle of terrace house in Norfolk Road, Walthamstow, which had been adapted with the addition of a second floor by loft conversion. The service involved inspection and production of a Level 3 Building Survey report. Issues identified included safety aspects, with a lack of carbon monoxide detection, improvements needed to a staircase and the need to improve fire safety. The report was also supplemented with feasibility advice in respect of the client’s proposals to add a first floor and side return extension. We will of course be on hand to provide advice on party wall matters when the client is ready to proceed with those works.
Our client was very happy with the report – “Survey fully answered the brief and was very detailed. Highly recommend. I will use again”.
Steve Hobbs, one of our team of Chartered Surveyors, recently completed a Level 2 Survey for the purchaser of a terraced 1930s house in Walthamstow. The survey uncovered issues with dampness, timber defects and possible asbestos containing materials. Steve detailed the associated risks in the report and, during subsequent telephone conversations with the client, was able to provide further guidance and advice as to what steps needed to be taken to investigate and resolve these issues.
Following our advice the client was pleased to be able to proceed with the purchase from an fully informed position ‘This is the 2nd surveyor in Walthamstow we’ve used. The service was timely, the people I was in contact with very professional. The report itself was incredibly thorough, the results frankly delivered. The report was formatted in such a way that makes it very accessible, easy to read and logical. Much better than the previous surveyor we had used. Highly recommended’.
Steve Hobbs, one of our team of experienced Chartered Surveyors, recently carried out a Level 3 Survey on 4 bedroom period house on one of the turnings off Forest Road in Walthamstow.
The client was particularly concerned about the risk of structural movement, given the property had previously been underpinned, and thankfully we were able to put their mind at rest insofar as confirming that there was no evidence of significant ongoing movement. We were however also able to highlight a number of repairs required to the property, including some poorly carried out and defective roofing works.
The client was pleased with the service provided, commenting: “I very much recommend Peter Barry! We particularly appreciated them coming back to us with more advice following our questions on the report, and their support throughout the whole process. Would use again!”Read the full review

The survey highted a number of ongoing wants of repairs, maintenance and improvement, including the need for various external maintenance works, the need to replace the windows and the need to update the electrical installation. Steve detailed the associated risks in the report and, during subsequent telephone conversations with the client, was able to provide further guidance and advice as to what steps needed to be taken to investigate and resolve these issues.
The client was pleased with the service, remarking; ‘Excellent experience using Peter Barry Surveyors, Joanne always communicated with us promptly and the whole process of booking our survey was extremely easy and hassle free. Would highly recommend.’Read the full review
