Matthew prepared a desk top valuation report using floorplans I already had for my property, which was less expensive than but still very in-depth. Recent Activity in Barnes SW13

The owners of a mid-terraced property in Barnes SW13, were planning an extensive refurbishment and extension and sought the services of our experienced Chartered Surveyor Matthew Price.

The owners’ major concern was the response from neighbours and whether they would seek to appoint their own party wall surveyor (which increases costs and timings significantly). Matthew addressed this by gaining a detailed understanding of the project and then speaking to each neighbour before serving notices. As a result of this early preparation, only 1 award was required with Matthew acting as the joint/agreed surveyor.

One tricky aspect was the construction of the flank wall of the extension, which ran alongside the neighbour’s rear extension. It was possible that the concrete had overspilled the boundary and would interfere with the proposed foundation. Matthew requested that the contractor to dig a trial pit to investigate and thankfully there was no overspill. The award required the foundation be dug in 1m sections (as opposed to all 4m all at once) and to incorporate a ‘slip membrane’ to stop the foundations bonding, both of which could have caused damage.
