Recent Activity in Bow E3

One of our Associate Directors, Matthew Price, acted as the adjoining owner’s surveyor on a project just to the north of Mile End Park in Bow where the building owner had recently served notice under the provisions of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996. The proposals included a basement extension.

The adjoining owner, who had previously extended into his own basement, was unaware that he would be due a payment when the building owner made use of the underpinning that was constructed at his expense. The payment was agreed between the surveyors and would become due when the use was made.

The adjoining owner was also made aware of his right to request security for expenses in accordance with section 12 of the Act (essentially pot of money set aside for the work to be complete in the event that the works were not completed). An appropriate figure was agreed by the surveyors, providing the adjoining owner with peace of mind during the works.

About Bow

Located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Bow is a residential area in the East End of London.

Bow is an area that is fast becoming popular with people trying to find new and more inexpensive areas that are fairly central. Bow is close to the City and also to Docklands so there are plenty of advantages to living here for City workers and new apartment blocks have been springing up to cater for the influx of new residents. There are two stations in Bow: Bow Church, which is on the DLR rail network; and Bow Road underground station. This is in zone 2 and is on the Hammersmith & City and District lines, offering quick travel times into the city and across north and west London.
