Our Associate Director Matthew Price recently acted as agreed surveyor in respect of a party wall matter just off Green Street in EN3. He was assisted by Katie Merchant. The owner of an end of terrace 1930 built house proposed to cut chimney breasts away from the party wall and cut beams in to facilitate a loft conversion.

We were originally approached by the adjoining owner as they were concerned about the impact of the work and wanted a surveyor to consider how the risks might be reduced. The building owner requested that we also act for them, and the adjoining owner was open to such an arrangement. A party wall surveyor can act for both parties in a party wall dispute as there is an obligation to act impartially. Matthew produced a party wall award which authorised the work but included several provisions to mitigate the risk of damage and avoid inconvenience to the adjoining occupiers.

The adjoining owner was pleased with the outcome, stating in a review that Katie and the surveyor [Matthew] were both very helpful, friendly and reliable.

About Enfield

The housing stock in Enfield Town spans the centuries, from the Georgian houses of Gentleman’s Row to Tower Point, an ultra modern apartment block, although the area is primarily made up of Victorian terraces, larger detached Edwardian houses and 1930s semis.
