However, basement excavation and underpinning is at the upper end of the scale in terms of risk and disruption meaning that party wall surveyors will generally be appointed.

One such neighbouring owner contacted us, having been served with notices under section 2 (underpinning and chimney breast removal) and section 6 (excavation) of the Act pertaining to a large basement extension. The job was allocated to our surveyor Shaun Blake, with his assistant Bawor, handling day to day matters. They held an initial Zoom call with their appointing owners, explaining the role of the adjoining owners’ surveyor, security for expenses, the advising engineer and noting any concerns that they had.
