A property situated within a row of Victorian houses to the west of Leytonstone High Road station was purchased by an owner who wished to undertake extension works to maximise living space.

Our surveyor, Matthew Price, was appointed by the owner undertaking the works to prepare and serve the necessary notices on the adjoining owners. The building owner had emphasised the fact that the works were due to start imminently and the project was time sensitive.

Upon receipt of the notices, both adjoining owners contacted us to discuss the proposals and how they would be affected. Both agreed to Matthew acting as “agreed surveyor”. The works were therefore able to proceed without any delay.

The owner of an Edwardian property immediately to the south of Whipps Cross Hospital, which had been held in the family for generations, wished to increase the habitable space on account of an expanding family. The planned works included a loft conversion.

Loft conversions involve exposing the party wall and the insertion of steel work into the party wall. Matthew Price, the appointed surveyor, advised the building owner that the works were notifiable under section 3 of the Act.

The adjoining owner concurred in the appointment of Matthew as the agreed surveyor as they were keen for the condition of their property to be scheduled prior to the works and for Matthew to undertake a final inspection to confirm no damage had been caused by the works.

The project has now been completed and the final inspection recently undertaken. About Leytonstone

Leytonstone is located at the southern end of the London Borough of Waltham Forest between Wanstead and Stratford.

The area is well served with green space including Wanstead Park and Wanstead Flats; the latter being part of the vast Epping Forest and great venue for sports, picnics or just enjoying nature. Less well known is the area’s connection to Alfred Hitchcock who was born above his father’s grocery shop on the High Road in 1899. The connection is celebrated in a set of mosaics on display in Leytonstone Station.

A feature of Leytonstone’s nightlife is Luna Lounge, an independent venue with live music most evenings including open night and jam sessions, located to the north of the area on Church Lane. The venue also run the occasional comedy nights.

Transport links are excellent with Leytonstone Central line Underground Station connecting to both the City and West End supplemented by two Overground stations – Leytonstone High Road and Leyton Midland Road.
