Recent Activity in Shoreditch E2

One of our clients is the owner of a middle of terrace two storey house located within a conservation area in the Shoreditch/Bethnal Green area. Our initial instruction was to undertake a survey and provide a Specific Defect Report with advice upon structural movement to the front elevation and the condition of the London or ‘butterfly’ roof coverings.

The client retained our project management services to specify, tender and oversee the recommended works to re-cover the roof and undertake structural repairs to introduce lateral restraint to the front elevation. Our input included recommending suitable contractors and specifying techniques and materials sympathetic to the conservation area location. This project also involved serving notice upon affected neighbours under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and preparing a party wall award to authorise the works while ensuring that all reasonable safeguards were in place.

About Shoreditch

Shoreditch is an inner city London area located in the London Borough of Hackney. It lies in the middle of Kingsland, Bethnal Green, Liverpool Street and Old Street.

The main area of Shoreditch is centred around Shoreditch High Street and this is a bustling shopping hub with many independent businesses. Shoreditch has long been popular with creative types and, along with nearby Hoxton, has become well known for its arts and music scenes. There are plenty of bars and clubs in the area and a great deal of flash loft apartments that attract high price tags.

There is a London Overground station on Shoreditch High Street and also a couple of nearby underground options. Liverpool Street is on the Hammersmith & City, Circle and Metropolitan lines with access to all areas of London, whilst Old Street is on the Northern line. Both stations are in zone 1.
