Situated in the London Borough of Newham, Forest Gate is a residential area that borders Manor Park and lies just to the south of Wanstead Flats.
Forest Gate enjoys some of the amenities of nearby Upton Park, with Green Street just nudging into its territory. There is a good selection of period property, ranging from large houses to conversion flats in Victorian buildings. However, there is also a great deal of more modern housing. This is standard across much of the East End as bomb damage was extensive here during the Second World War and housing had to rebuilt quickly. Wanstead Flats Park is a big selling point for this area. It is part of Epping Forest and is a massive area of open grassland that provides a huge amount of recreational space for residents.
Trains from Forest Gate mainline station will take you into London Liverpool Street in under 15 minutes. There is no underground station here but Wanstead Park is fairly close and this is on the Central line.
