Our team of surveyors are passionate about inspecting properties in Islington whether it be as part of a pre-purchase survey, to establish a property’s value or to prepare a schedule of condition prior to works commencing next door.
If you are planning a building project in Islington you’ve probably started thinking about party wall procedures. The first step is to establish whether the works fall within the scope of the Act – if you’d like us to do that for you, free of charge, just send us copies of the drawings and we’ll normally come back to you within 24 hours. If you’re on the other side of the wall, we can also assist if you’ve decided that you need to appoint a surveyor or just need some initial advice without obligation.
We’ve been asked to handle party wall matters relating to the remodelling of a Victorian terraced house to the east of Islington, towards De Beauvoir Town. The house has a lower ground floor level but the floor to ceiling height feels slightly claustrophobic. As part of the works, the building owner plans to underpin the party wall under section 2 of the Act so that the floor level can be reduced. To further open up the space, an extension is to be added to the rear and both chimney breasts will be removed from the party wall.
We were recommended to the adjoining owner and it has been agreed that our senior surveyor, Justin Burns, will act as the agreed surveyor. Underpinning is at the upper end of the party wall scale in terms of risk but with an engineer produced method statement and a contractor with the skill to execute it, the risk can be mitigated to an acceptable level.

Islington is located to the North of London between Camden Town NW1 and Shoreditch E2. At the heart of Islington is the shopping area around Upper Street which is now dominated by bars, estate agents and coffee shops. Also on Upper Street is the Business Design Centre; a major exhibition and conference venue.
The most sought after property in the area are the Georgian town houses that surround the area’s squares. Most popular are Cloudesley and Lonsdale squares. For something a little different many of the old industrial buildings alongside The Grand Union Canal have now been converted to modern apartments. Angel Station in the heart of Islington is located in zone 1 of the Northern Line with a journey time to central London of between 10 and 15 minutes.
