About Maidstone
Maidstone is the largest town in Kent and lies 32 miles east-south-east of London. The River Medway runs through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester and the Thames Estuary.
Maidstone boasts a number of landmarks such as Leeds Castle, an architectural gem surrounded by serene waters and Mote Park, a sprawling green oasis, which invites residents and visitors alike to embrace nature’s tranquility. The Mall shopping centre caters to the cosmopolitan shopper, offering a diverse array of retail therapy.
The town served as the backdrop for the iconic TV series “The Darling Buds of May,” capturing the essence of rural charm. Maidstone born Tony Hart, famous for his art show Hartbeat and his ‘partnership’ with animated plasticine character, Morph, has a memorial plaque at the Hazlitt Arts Centre in the town.
Mackenzie Crook, or Paul his real given name, was born in Maidstone and went on to appear in two Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Finding Neverland and several episodes of acclaimed TV epic, Game of Thrones but is of course most famous for his role as Gareth Keenan in The Office.
