Peter Barry Surveyors is a multidisciplinary practice with a focus on residential property. We offer a range of valuation and surveying services in Putney including Building Surveys, Specific Defect Reports and Leasehold Valuations.
Party wall procedures are a particular area of expertise. We have a large team with vast experience in acting for either owner or as the ‘agreed surveyor’. Having an experienced surveyor involved from the outset can make all the difference and may even help to avoid a dispute altogether. Whether you’re preparing to extend your Putney property or have just received a notice from your neighbour, contact us for some free and friendly advice.
All of our surveyors, assistants and support staff are trained to the highest standards for the benefit of our Putney clients. In addition to their professional qualifications, everyone goes through an intensive in-house training programme designed around the work of each department they work within.
Occasionally we get an anxious homeowner contact us explaining that they have either forgotten or did not know about the need to serve party wall notices. Such an owner was recommended by a friend to get in touch with James Merewether, one of our surveyors, as she needed immediate assistance with a proposed side infill extension to her Putney property. There was pressure to complete the party wall process within a few weeks as she had builders already booked in to commence the works on a specific date and any delays would be costly.
James talked her through the process including potential responses to notices and proactively called and emailed her neighbour to chase a response. The neighbour dissented but appointed James as the Agreed Surveyor allowing him to complete the process within a few weeks, much to the satisfaction of the homeowner:
‘Great service, very friendly, professional and helpful. My application was very last minute, I didn’t understand the process and how long I needed. James explained everything well and … party wall documents were delivered on time before the work started.’READ THE FULL REVIEW
Steve Hobbs, one of our team of lease extension specialists, recently undertook a lease extension valuation for a period conversion flat on Lower Richmond Road in Putney.
This being a straightforward matter (a relatively low value extension claim due to the client having a fairly long lease) we were able to carry out the valuation on a desktop basis in order to minimise costs and produce the report quickly.
The client had various questions about the valuation and about the process in general, and was grateful for the guidance and aftercare we provided, commenting; ‘…not only their fees are very competitive, their service quality is also smooth and professional. Report was returned very quickly and liaising with team members Steve and Joanne, I felt that all my queries were dealt with smoothly. Recommend and Thank you!’READ THE FULL REVIEW

Putney is a charming part of South West of London. Nestled between the affluent areas of Barnes and Wimbledon, it’s a perfect base for those seeking a peaceful retreat with easy access to the City.
One of the most notable landmarks in the area is the famous Putney Bridge, which offers stunning views along the river. The current stone bridge, designed by civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette, was completed in 1886. Putney is also home to the world-famous Boat Race, which takes place every year between Oxford and Cambridge universities.
If you like history, you will not want to miss a visit to St Mary’s Church on Putney High Street. The church has a famous bell tower and west chapel dating back to the 16th Century. The local attraction has been lit up at night since 2019 to stunning effect.
