Miscellaneous | Party Wall Questions | Party Walls

Over the last couple of years we’ve put on a series of lunchtime CPD sessions covering party wall procedures for Architects, engineers, housing associations and local authorities. We’re now accepting requests to book sessions over the next few months.

Originally the sessions were held at the organisations’ offices but over the last year, like all meetings, they’ve moved to a virtual platform. It’s not quite the same as being face to face but we’re still managing to make the experience as interactive as possible by encouraging attendees to raise party wall related issues that they’ve experienced on past or current jobs. Hopefully it won’t be too long now until we can do the sessions face to face again.

A typical 50-minute session covers the following topics:

  • Issues to consider at the design stage
  • Notifiable works and types of notices
  • Notice periods and why they’re not important
  • How owners can improve the chances of a consent
  • The appointment of surveyors and surveyors’ fees
  • Rights of access under the Act

Sessions are hosted by one of our Directors who are all very experienced party wall surveyors.

If having a better understanding of procedures under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 would be beneficial in your day to day work and in discussions with clients you’ll want to take advantage of this offer.

If you are a RIBA Chartered Member the session will count towards your annual CPD obligations by providing a ‘general awareness’ of party wall procedures (2 points).

You don’t have to have a boardroom or overhead projectors; just a space to sit in and an audience that are willing to learn. If you’re interested in arranging a session please contact Susan Bradford on 020 7183 2578 or by email at susan.bradford@peterbarry.co.uk.

We used Peter Barry Chartered Surveyors for our Party Wall matters while carrying out structural works on our house. They were efficient, professional, and easy to communicate with. Amrita Johal was our main point of contact.
I have just had a party wall agreement drawn up with my neighbour. James Merewether was the surveyor who assisted me. He was very helpful with advice and explained all the options over a phone call and email. He did not push for anything that I did not need he was very quick to responded. My neighbour and I have both got the outcome that we wanted and I would strongly recommend James and Peter Barry Charted Surveyors. 👍
I'm very happy with the service provided. Communication was great and they were quick to deliver the report. Would happily recommend.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your recommendation Mr Foltin.
Efficient and professional service provided by Trina and Amrita when arranging a party wall agreement between ourselves and our neighbours prior to building works. Happy to recommend.
Response from the owner:We appreciate your recommendation, thank you.
Steve Hobbs, chartered RICS surveyor, visited our property in East Finchley for a ‘red book’ Probate valuation. Everything went as planned and the report was produced within the stated timescale. The office staff were also very helpful. The prices was competitive. Thanks.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your feedback Mr Randall.
